JIM DAVIS / ARIZONA DAILY STAR 1989
The luncheon speaker for the Western Region Conference of the American Advertising Federation on Oct. 13, 1989, was Christie Hefner, whose father, Hugh, founded the Playboy empire. She predicted that the 1990s would be a decade of more fun than the obsessive seriousness of the '80s. She also warned of the "tyranny of minorities," which can force changes that a community really doesn't agree with: for example, when the minority opinion forces removal of a particular magazine from store shelves.
