I've recently returned to Arizona after a 23-year detour to North Carolina.
I've been a newspaper photographer for 30 years in AZ and NC, and am now making nature, scenic and cultural photographs in Tucson and the Desert Southwest.
I'm always happy to reconnect with old friends and acquaintances, former colleagues and fellow students.
Look for my photos on azstarnet with the tag garyobrien.

Surprised the Arizona Daily Star missed noting this story today:
One of the bigger news events in southern Arizona. I believe the coverage of this was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize that year. Aug 23, 2012 @ 8:46pm
Man, it's going to be a cast of thousands in Tampa. Shurf Joe (R-Piehole) will find a way to stand out, guarantee it.

New Mexico has the rail runner, which has had mixed success. I've taken it several times between Santa Fe and ABQ, and if we had this in AZ, I would use it frequently to travel from TUS to PHX and CG.
NM doesn't really have the population density to make funding easier. AZ does.

A link to the NASA Messenger site would have added value to this story, as well as more photos as mentioned above. http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/messenger/main/index.html

Wonderful. You don't need lightning to make a neat nighttime storm photo.

Very nice. Were you in a tall building, or on a mountainside?

Thanks, Barbara! I'm just returned to AZ from NC after being gone for 23 years. The weather this week had been a glorious welcome home :)
